Childbirth in coma, life in nightmare

Svjetlana Kljajic (21) from neighborhood of Kozarska Dubica in RS, after unhappy love from school time, she caught an illness suddenly, fallen in coma  and in that condition she delivered the child in Banja Luka. When all written off her, she returned to the alive, she started stand up, she started to use the wheelchair, and now she set the new aim: to make the first step and walk with her daughter Jovana through Dubica.  
In the meantime, she survived more two hard losses: Svjetlana's father was murdered, and father of her child - disappeared without word!

- A lot of people press my hand now and tell me that I'm a hero, but I all that experience as a challenge. I have right neither on mistake nor on pessimism because of my little daughter. In life I see with full eyes and by heart which hasn't abandoned even when all except my mother Milka and brother Saša written off, - says Svjetlana.

Love from teenager's dreams

She fell in love in school friend in second class of Grammar School whom today she doesn't want mention the name.

- That was love without limits, we both dreamed about together future. We were going out, walked through the parks, he was coming to my house, and I was going to his parents - real fairy tale from teenager's dreams - remembers Svjetlana.

Horrible accident happened after school leaving ball. Neighbor from village who previously served sentence for the murder, he again pulled the knife and killed Svjetlana's father as it were at the house's doorstep. That was without any reason!

- That was for me and for the whole family big shock. My father was offering immeasurable support, love and care. After his death my dreams about studies dispersed, because there wasn't anyone to educate me - says Svjetlana.

Not female student employed in Dubica, in company which was acting with trade of computers.

- I was going on foot six kilometers to the work place mostly through the forest. I had to pass near house my father's murder, then besides cemetery in which my dad was buried. I got the salary from 250 KM in the first month, and in next six how long I have worked neither 1 KM, so I left the job - says Svjetlana.

Happy relationship with the first love was continued, and because of that Svjetlana wasn't worried when she became pregnant at the end of year 2005.

Pregnancy, illness and the end of love

My new life drama started 11^th January year 2006 when I suddenly felt pains in neck part of spine, piercing, numb... I consulted doctors in Dubica's health center. After the first check up, they realized that the problem was serious and that my life was endangered. Every hour it was worse and worse, I loose my consciousness and after two days they directed me to surgery in Clinical center in Banja Luka. They connected me on oxygen in Dubica and I went by medical car in mum's escort to Banja Luka. During the way my self phone rang, my boyfriend called me asked where I am. I moved the probe and told him that I was going to the hospital in Banja Luka. Then the connection broke off because of battery on my self phone. We didn't hear any more nor saw, that was the end of our idyll, and beginning of my struggle for naked life - says Svjetlana.

She fell in coma. The doctors concluded that was case about very rare hard disease with complicated name which incite inflammation of complete nervous system. Svjetlana's family was told that only three patient in the world recovered from this disease.

In my head spread immense mist, people voices were mixing with whitish, indistinct conversation of the hospital staff. From that whitish sometimes emerged only people's eyes and nothing else. Only when I woke up I could think about that in long nights and analyze pictures which don't appear either in dreams. I was completely helpless in condition which was moving from half-coma till clinical death. I had lied in shock room for three months. I was aware of the childbirth but not the time when everything was happened - says.

When she came to consciousness she thought that her baby was born same or previous day, but the small Jovana had already got three months. Grandmother Milka took over the care about small granddaughter.

- She was born on the 19^th January year 2006 and my mother gave her a name Jovana because of Saint John who obviously was her and my protector - says Svjetlana.

Waking up

The first words which young mother said after waking up were: "Is it boy or girl?"

Since, the chances that young mother survive were only 1 to 3 %, doctors decided to delivered the child by caesarean section in seventh month of pregnancy in comatose condition, in order to save the baby?! That was told to Svjetlana's mother and brother.

- I lied immovable in hospital full 14 months completely immovable with lost power of speaking. Sometimes it was coming to crises, and prognoses were pointed out that I would vegetate as a plant some time, but in my twenties I couldn't make it up with that. I decided to stand up on my legs and take for a walk my Jovana - says brave mother.

After hospital's care followed therapies in Institution "Miroslav Zotovic" in Trapist near Banja Luka.

- Patients who spoke with me there were touched with my life story and some of them become close with me and they even now visit me as my friends at my house - says Svjetlana.

In January before Jovana's the first birthday mother left the hospital and started to lean on arms and get better. Now she can to sit and stand, and she very rarely used the wheelchair. She can't walk, but and that she is going to achieve as she says. She drew her Jovana at the glass in the hospital and that picture today adorns home of her family in which she lives modestly but happily.

Courage

- I'm not worried because we are far away from town and because we haven't got a car either new furniture. It is only important for me that my Jovana alive and healthy. I have got 49 KM from Center for social work, and 70 KM was canceled which they previously were giving, probably is big expense for the state - comments Ceca.

Her mother says that her daughter is hero over heroes.

- I amazed with her energy and faith in life. When she gets up in the morning she obligatorily puts her make up on and dresses up. She was really beauty, and even now after everything what she survived beauty and smile didn't get off from her face. It should be known that she has only 21 now, and she lived through a lot suffer for few lives - says proud mother and grandmother.

Small Jovana is very curious; she wants to know everything, to see everything, now she is at Svjetlana's bed and now runs for grandmother.

- She is healthy and good, grows up fast... She looks like her mother when she was in that age - says grandmother Milka.

People from afar touched with Svjetlana's life story just sometimes comes in modest home of the Kljajić's and bring some gift to Jovana. The family is endlessly grateful to them on that. As they say, more of that they don't need.
